Balloon Sinuplasty

Balloon Sinuplasty in Bourbonnais, IL

Sinus infections are painful and can disrupt your life in several ways. Unfortunately, some patients suffer from four or more sinus infections each year or even suffer through sinus infections that last 12 weeks or more. For these patients, there’s a revolutionary treatment that has proven safe and effective: Balloon Sinuplasty (BSP).

What is Balloon Sinuplasty?

Balloon Sinuplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed right in our office. The office of David E. Krause, M.D., Ltd. may recommend Balloon Sinuplasty for patients who are not responding well to medications or who suffer from multiple or ongoing sinus infections.

The Procedure

The Balloon Sinuplasty procedure uses a small catheter to gently open sinus passages and flush out mucus. There’s no cutting, no scars, and the procedure is performed under local anesthesia.

  1. A soft, flexible guidewire is inserted into the blocked sinus
  2. The balloon is advanced over the guidewire and is inflated to gently expand the sinus opening
  3. Fluid is sprayed into the inflamed sinus to flush out any pus or mucus.
  4. The balloon is removed, leaving the sinuses open.
